New route and new kicks

New Route
Lisa "discovered" a new route for us so we tried it out this morning a little after 5.30 am. Surprisingly we saw some of our hoodrat friends up and about this morning and got some neighborly encouragement.

Turns out this new route is rather hilly. This is good. We need to run more hills. I heard someone say once that hills are the key to building speed. I could do with more speed :)

Our new route also allowed us to do more longer single track offshoots which was a welcome change. We are so blessed to live somewhere with such well kept trails and greenways. As we neared the halfway point (near our town's tiny airport) we got to see an old "bomber" fly low overhead and land. We turned back and tried to outrun the swarms of gnats that had gathered on the path thanks to last nights rain...thankfully we were faster!

We cranked up the speed for the last two miles and in turn had some epic negative splits! We crossed the last major street back into the neighborhood and a Willie Nelson lookalike in a pickup complete with bandana and cigarette dangling from his lips decided he didn't care that we had the walk light and stared us down as he cut a little too close for comfort in front of us. We had such a nice run that we laughed it off though. We entered the hood and went our separate ways ready to each face our day filled with kids and chores and responsibility. I know those 9ish miles before 7 am will give me the patience and love and kindness and energy to be a better mom, wife, daughter, & friend.

New Kicks
I ordered a pair of Altra Lone Peak zero drop trailrunning shoes and they came today! They seem to fit just right...fitted in the heel (I have narrow heels but am wide through the forefoot) and wide enough that my toes can spread. Perfection! Perhaps I won't wear a hole in the side of these thanks to my pinky toe. I'm excited to try them out tomorrow when we hike/trail run Heil Valley Ranch!

Run with intention and honesty!
